Baseball Recap: Springfield Find Success

Springfield got their first taste of in-conference action on Tuesday and they started things off strong. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Station Camp Bison 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yellow Jackets.

Logan Hellweg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kason Woodson was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Springfield: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landon Mayo, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Station Camp, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-10.

Springfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bison: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
