Basketball Recap: Gateway's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Gateway was the 63-62 winner over First Baptist Academy when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Gateway Eagles took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the First Baptist Academy Lions on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Lions are ranked 96th).

Despite the loss, Gateway still got an impressive performance from Christopher Davis, who posted 18 points. The contest was Davis' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Andrew Leopold was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

With the defeat, Gateway broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-8. As for First Baptist Academy, their record now sits at 23-2.

Gateway has already played their next matchup, an 87-67 victory against East Lee County on the 5th. As for First Baptist Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-63 win against Canterbury on the 5th.
