It was a Battle of the Birds when Bruning-Davenport/Shickley duked it out with Hay Springs on Saturday. The Eagles skirted past the Hawks 3-2.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Bruning-Davenport/Shickley who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 20-25, 25-19, 15-25, 15-6.

Bruning-Davenport/Shickley can attribute much of their success to Emma Hoins, who had 22 digs and two aces, and Emma Hinrichs, who had nine digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Hinrichs a new career-high in assists (17). Lexie Johnson was another key player, getting six digs and three aces.
They weren't the only good servers: Bruning-Davenport/Shickley was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. They are a perfect 14-0 when they serve at least ten aces.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller won the last time they faced Silver Lake and Lily Hrasky did her part to make sure it happened again. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller walked away with a 3-1 win over Silver Lake on Saturday for which the team can thank Hrasky, who had 13 digs and two aces. Hoins is also on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games she's played.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 27-29, 25-23, 25-18, 25-11.
Bruning-Davenport/Shickley's record is now 22-10. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their record now sits at 26-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Bruning-Davenport/Shickley has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Sumner-Eddyville-Miller struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.9 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
