Basketball Game Preview: Auburndale Apaches vs. Marathon Red Raiders

Auburndale hasn't had much luck against Marathon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Auburndale Apaches will head out to take on the Marathon Red Raiders at 7:15 p.m. Auburndale knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Marathon likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Auburndale didn't have too much trouble with Chequamegon as they won 59-42. Given the Apaches' advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Screaming Eagles are ranked 365th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Marathon waltzed into their matchup on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Buccaneers 64-61.

Marathon's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Auburndale, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.

Auburndale couldn't quite finish off Marathon in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 57-54. Can Auburndale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
