Football Recap: Lee's Summit Comes Up Short on the Road Against Liberty

Lee's Summit kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 21-13 to the Liberty Blue Jays. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Blue Jays 13-0 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Lee's Summit lost, don't look at Preston Hatfield. Despite the final result, he rushed for 88 yards and two TDs on only eight carries. Hatfield really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.

Liberty had a senior duo take command as Connor Hatfield rushed for 157 yards on only 12 carries and Colt Nolin rushed for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Grady Coppinger got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lee's Summit will head out to face off against Blue Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Tigers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Liberty, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Liberty North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
