Basketball Game Preview: Edgewood Bulldogs vs. Malakoff Tigers

The Edgewood Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Malakoff Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Edgewood came up short against Quitman and fell 44-33. While losing is never fun, Edgewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 857th, while Quitman is ranked 289th).

Despite the loss, Edgewood had strong showings from Preslee Burton, who posted four points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals, and Carmen Smith, who scored seven points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Edgewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Malakoff unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 38-37 to Quitman.

Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 8-19. As for Malakoff, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 25-4.

Edgewood suffered a grim 48-22 defeat to Malakoff when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Edgewood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
