Recap: Greenfield Knights vs. Wayne Country Day Chargers
The Greenfield Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. The match between them and Wayne Country Day wasn't particularly close, with Greenfield falling 66-49. While losing is never fun, Greenfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while Wayne Country Day is ranked 124th).
Despite the loss, Greenfield still got an impressive performance from Darcy Dean, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 51% of Greenfield's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kaylee McClintock, who scored 22 points.
Wayne Country Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Smith out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyrah Davis, who scored 17 points.
Greenfield has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Wayne Country Day, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-6.
Greenfield won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wilson Prep at 4:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Greenfield is coming into the matchup with four straight losses on the road, so Wilson Prep is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Wayne Country Day, they will square off against John Paul II Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wayne Country Day has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 316 points over their last five games.
