It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Covington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Milton-Union Bulldogs 6-5. The victory was nothing new for the Buccs as they're now sitting on five straight.

The team relied heavily on Emalyn Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Ava Hartwig was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Covington lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in four consecutive matches.

Covington's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Milton-Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.

Covington and Milton-Union should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Buccs will square off against Lehman Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (225 vs. 572). Meanwhile, Milton-Union (ranked 207th) will meet Bethel (ranked 441st) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
