Softball Recap: North Buncombe Wins Going Away Against Mountain Heritage

North Buncombe had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Mountain Heritage on Monday. North Buncombe was the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over Mountain Heritage. The Black Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.

Molly Clark was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Clark was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Lilly Clark and Ali Jo Rice did most of the damage at the plate: Lilly scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Rice scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits Clark has posted since back in March of 2024. Alyssa Mayberry was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

The victory got North Buncombe back to even at 5-5. As for Mountain Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

North Buncombe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-2 loss against Enka on the 25th. As for Mountain Heritage, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Mountain Heritage Cougars challenge Hibriten Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hibriten will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Mountain Heritage surely won't give up without a fight.
