Softball Game Preview: Montgomery Vikings vs. Healdsburg Greyhounds

The Montgomery Vikings will head out to take on the Healdsburg Greyhounds at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Montgomery is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Montgomery's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Elsie Allen 18-0. The contest marked the Vikings' most dominant victory of the season.

Quinn Matel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Montgomery got a massive performance out of Kalee Murray, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Murray a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalia Morales Virelas, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Montgomery always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Healdsburg was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ukiah. The game marked the first time this year in which the Greyhounds were not able to get on the board.

Montgomery's record is now 8-13. As for Healdsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.

Montgomery might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Healdsburg when the teams last played last Tuesday. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
