Basketball Game Preview: Herndon Hornets vs. McLean Highlanders

Herndon hasn't had much luck against McLean recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hornets will venture away from home to face off against the Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. McLean took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Herndon, who comes in off a win.

Herndon will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating George C. Marshall, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hornets managed a 42-36 win over the Statesmen on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Hornets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Statesmen are ranked 36th).

Meanwhile, McLean was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 52-51 to Yorktown.

Herndon will need to focus on slowing down Nick Karageorgos, one of several McLean players who made an impact when they last played. He posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Jake Bell, who had 12 points.

Herndon pushed their record up to 8-14 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points over those games. As for McLean, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.

Herndon didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against McLean when the teams last played on Wednesday, but they still walked away with a 68-63 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
