Basketball Recap: Eastside Rams vs. Gainesville Hurricanes

The Eastside Rams pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Gainesville 64-60. Eastside has not had much luck with the Hurricanes recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Eastside lost, one person who can't be blamed is Davion Pugh. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Pugh scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Ray, who scored 12 points along with eight assists.

Even though they lost, Eastside were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Eastside has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Gainesville, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11.

Eastside won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Gainesville Christian Community is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Gainesville, they will face off against the Lions at TBD on Tuesday. One thing working in Leon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
