Basketball Recap: Kermit Comes Up Short

Kermit was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Lovington Wildcats, falling 67-42. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 991st in Texas, while the Wildcats are ranked 39th in New Mexico).

Despite the loss, Kermit still got an impressive performance from Ebbin Mallory, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. That's the most points Mallory has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Elysha Figueroa, who posted five points.

Kermit's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Lovington, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Kermit will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Monahans at 12:30 p.m. on December 31st. Lovington and Albuquerque Academy will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. on December 26th.
