The King's Academy Lions will challenge the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. King's Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
On Friday, King's Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Saint Andrew's. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Scots. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
King's Academy got a great performance from Alexander Hansen as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Nolan Payne and Alec Cabrera did most of the damage at the plate: Payne went 2-for-4 with one triple and one stolen base, while Cabrera got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aiden Strompf, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Taravella as they made off with a 6-0 win. The Eagles not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 5th.
The result came thanks to Blake Sundberg's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Calvary Christian Academy is 5-1-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-7-1 otherwise.
At the plate, Calvary Christian Academy's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Preston Bielec, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Salvador Lopez was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
King's Academy's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 9-8-3.
King's Academy came up short against Calvary Christian Academy when the teams last played back in March, falling 5-1. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
