Softball Game Preview: Terryville Kangaroos vs. Nonnewaug Chiefs

Terryville is 0-10 against Nonnewaug since May of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Kangaroos will host the Chiefs at 3:45 p.m. Terryville has given up an average of 22.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Terryville is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They came up short against Thomaston, falling 19-0.

Meanwhile, Nonnewaug put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Shepaug Valley 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won 14 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Scarlett Ivey made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Nonnewaug got a massive performance out of Ashlynn Blum, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Blum a new career-high. Gianna DeLorenzo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Nonnewaug hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive games.

Terryville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Nonnewaug, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0.
