Basketball Recap: Smoky Mountain Takes a Loss

Smoky Mountain was the 74-68 winner over East Burke when they last played one another back in February of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Smoky Mountain Mustangs took a 69-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Burke Cavaliers on Thursday. The Mustangs' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Smoky Mountain still got an impressive performance from Custer Prenger, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 boards. Prenger is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Brown, who posted 12 points.

Smoky Mountain's record now sits at 5-5. As for East Burke, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-5.

Smoky Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 63-60 defeat against Avery County on the 27th. As for East Burke, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 87-49 loss against McDowell on the 27th.
