Softball Game Preview: Rio Hondo Prep Kares vs. Polytechnic Panthers

The Rio Hondo Prep Kares will face off against the Polytechnic Panthers at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Rio Hondo Prep will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

On Monday, Rio Hondo Prep got the win against La Quinta by a conclusive 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Kares, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

BRYCE JOHNSON made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. JOHNSON was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on ALLIE SCOTT, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was LEAH RODRIGUEZ, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Polytechnic didn't have quite enough to beat Flintridge Prep on Tuesday and fell 9-8.

Brynn Connolly made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs. Carthan Connolly was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Rio Hondo Prep's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Polytechnic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
