Basketball Recap: Laurice Hamilton and Gavin Tinsley Secure Win for Plant City

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Plant City walked away with it. They walked away with a 72-63 victory over the Lehigh Lightning on Wednesday. This was a revenge game for the Raiders: when they faced off against the Lightning back in December of 2024, they had to take a 78-58 defeat.

Leading Plant City to victory were Gavin Tinsley and Laurice Hamilton. Tinsley dropped a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds, while Hamilton dropped a double-double with 23 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Tinsley is now averaging an impressive 8 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Vare Miller, who posted ten points.

Plant City was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lehigh only posted eight assists.

Despite the loss, Lehigh still got an impressive performance from Justin Gollop, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gollop a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Daanro Mauvais, who earned ten points and six rebounds.

Plant City has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points over those games. As for Lehigh, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 23-5.

Coming up, Plant City will challenge Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sarasota knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 games -- so hopefully Plant City likes a good challenge. Lehigh does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
