Basketball Recap: Monahans Comes Up Short

Monahans was the 65-36 winner over Fort Stockton when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Monahans Loboes took a blow against the Fort Stockton Panthers on Friday, falling 99-32. While losing is never fun, the Loboes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1420th, while the Panthers are ranked 552nd).

Leading Fort Stockton to victory were Aundre Washington and Evan Cordero. Washington posted 22 points and six boards, while Cordero dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most points Washington has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Ronquillo, who put up 14 points.

Monahans dropped their record down to 1-18 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Fort Stockton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monahans has already played their next matchup (against Greenwood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fort Stockton will take on Pecos at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Stockton is facing Pecos at the right time seeing as Pecos is stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
