Softball Recap: Wilson Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hatton

Wilson scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Hatton Hornets by a score of 13-12. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 two weeks ago.

Ava Hill was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Avery Darby was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Emily Chandler was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Wilson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

Wilson has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. The win was the third in a row for Hatton, bringing their record for this year to 8-10-1.

Looking ahead, Wilson will be playing in front of their home fans against Owen J. Roberts at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hatton will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lawrence County at 4:30 p.m. on March 31st.
