Robert Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hunter Dougherty was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Danny Janssen, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Higbee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Brunswick duked it out with South Shelby on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brunswick pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Higbee, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-17-2.

Higbee might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Brunswick in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
