Basketball Recap: Gio Gude's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Santa Clara over Cate

Santa Clara was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 39-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cate Rams. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 62-41 back in December of 2024.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gio Gude, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Jj Ward, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Santa Clara's defeat dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Cate, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-6.

Santa Clara didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-52 win against Channel Islands on the 20th. Cate has also already played their next contest, a 58-56 victory against Bishop Diego on the 22nd.
