Softball Recap: Cincinnati Country Day Nighthawks vs. Lockland Panthers

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Norwood, Cincinnati Country Day was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Lockland Panthers 4-3. The Nighthawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Riley Williams made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Nia Irby was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylee Hirschauer, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Cincinnati Country Day hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lockland struck out 12 times.

The victory got Cincinnati Country Day back to even at 1-1. As for Lockland, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Cincinnati Country Day is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Roger Bacon at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lockland, they will face off against New Miami at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
