Baseball Recap: Wauconda Has No Trouble Against Grayslake North

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Wauconda and Grayslake North, and Wauconda kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 14-7 victory on Tuesday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

Patrick Shannon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wauconda is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryan Fostiak, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Wauconda's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Luke Sickmeir, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Wauconda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win got Wauconda back to even at 9-9. As for Grayslake North, they dropped their record down to 2-14 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Wauconda will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Knights: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
