Preview: Cheyenne Wells Tigers vs. Granada Bobcats
Two dominant in Trey Scheler and Maddox Coleman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cheyenne Wells Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Granada Bobcats at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Cheyenne Wells sitting on three straight wins and Granada on eight.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cheyenne Wells walked away with it. They breezed by La Veta on the road to the tune of 64-18. The result was nothing new for Cheyenne Wells, who have now won five matches by 31 points or more so far this season.
Cheyenne Wells can attribute much of their success to Ethen Garay, who rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and Scheler, who gained 116 total yards and four touchdowns. Scheler is absolutely dominating the solo tackle category: he's posted at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Perry Chadwick was another key contributor, throwing for 118 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Cheyenne Wells' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Garay was especially locked on to La Veta's QB and sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, even though Genoa-Hugo scored an imposing 38 points on Saturday, Granada still came out on top. Granada pulled ahead with a 39-38 photo finish over Genoa-Hugo.
Their wins bumped Cheyenne Wells to 6-5 and Granada to 9-1.
Cheyenne Wells was taken down by Granada 58-24 when the teams last played back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Granada's Coleman, who rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 47 yards and three touchdowns. Now that Cheyenne Wells knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
