Football Recap: Payson Falls to Mountain View in First Game of Season

Payson had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 40-36 to the Mountain View Bruins on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it nine in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Payson lost, don't look at Trevyn Wall. Despite the final result, he threw for 358 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per attempt, and also punched in a pair of TDs on the ground. Wall is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Valentin Sanchez also helped with two scores in total.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain View to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tate Johnson, who threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Hyrum Stafford, who picked up 77 receiving yards and three TDs.

Coming up, Payson will face off against Juab at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mountain View, they will challenge Tooele at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
