Football Recap: Kemper County Falls to Quitman in First Game of Season

Kemper County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Quitman Panthers by a score of 34-32 on Friday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Kemper County had strong showings from Gabriel Murray, who threw for 223 yards and one touchdown while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt, and Damarius Yates, who gained 120 total yards. Yates didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made two total tackles.

Coming up, Kemper County will be playing at home against Noxubee County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Quitman, they will head out to challenge Heidelberg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
