Football Preview: Hillsboro Eagles vs. Glen Rose Tigers

Hillsboro hasn't had much luck against Glen Rose recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will host the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Hillsboro turned things around against Venus on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-8 win over the Bulldogs. The Eagles not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since October 11, 2024 (when they won 62-0).

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Braylen Benson and Kaden Grim. Benson rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries while Grim rushed for 126 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. Grim's longest rush was for an impressive 68 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jaylon Fennell was in the mix as well, providing Hillsboro with two TDs.

Hillsboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 382 rushing yards. They are 2-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Hillsboro didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Fennell and Edward Ramirez. Fennell got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glen Rose). They blew past Godley 56-21 on Friday.

Hillsboro better keep an eye on Judd Connally. He was instrumental in Glen Rose's win, rushing for 192 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 196 yards and four TDs. Connally's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 166 rushing yards. Luke Males was another key player, picking up 77 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Glen Rose's defense made their presence known, laying out Ryder Papasan 3.5 times. Oliver Elliott refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Godley's side was Ryder Ribitzki, who made 19 total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Glen Rose, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Hillsboro has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Glen Rose struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 249 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Hillsboro was taken down by Glen Rose 56-6 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Eagles were down 28-6.
