Basketball Game Preview: Humboldt Cubs vs. Erie Red Devils

The Humboldt Cubs will face off against the Erie Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Humboldt fought the good fight in their overtime game against Anderson County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (57-53), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Their defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

The losing side was boosted by Colden Cook, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre Franklin, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Erie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Fredonia and fell 79-46. The Red Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 71-34.

Humboldt will need focus on slowing down Jaden Daniels, one of several Erie players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points and five boards. Michael Richenburg was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Humboldt's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-2. As for Erie, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Everything came up roses for Humboldt against Erie in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 56-29 win. Does Humboldt have another victory up their sleeve, or will Erie turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
