Volleyball Recap: Walton-Verona Comes Up Short

If Walton-Verona was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Newport on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bearcats fell 3-1 to the Simon Kenton Pioneers on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bearcats of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Walton-Verona started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-9.

Chloe McIntosh paced Walton-Verona's offense, picking up 14 kills. McIntosh got some help from Olivia Simpkins and her 28 assists. Finally, McIntosh was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high two blocks.

Walton-Verona's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Simon Kenton, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Walton-Verona will take on Boone County in a tournament on Saturday. As for Simon Kenton, they are taking a road trip to take on Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
