After flying high against Chaminade Julienne Catholic on Tuesday, Springboro came back down to earth. The Panthers fell 7-2 to the Lakota West Firebirds on Wednesday. The Panthers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Jacob Rhinehart was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April.

On the hitting side, Springboro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Veletean, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Springboro's loss dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Lakota West, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-6.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Springboro will welcome Springfield at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lakota West, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Little Miami at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Firebirds 3.4, the Panthers 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
