Basketball Recap: Akiuk Memorial Falls Short Against Ranked Z John Williams

On Saturday, Akiuk Memorial faced Z John Williams in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Akiuk Memorial Grizzlies might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 57-42 to the Z John Williams Hawks, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Grizzlies have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Akiuk Memorial's loss came despite strong showings from Teana Pavilla and Chloe Wassillie. Pavilla posted 15 points, while Wassillie put up 14 points.

Z John Williams found their leader in freshman Adalyn Samuelson, who had 19 points. Samuelson has been hot, having posted 16 or more points the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Danielle Joekay, who earned ten points.

Akiuk Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Z John Williams, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-1.

Akiuk Memorial didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-38 win against Akula Elitnaurvik on the 22nd. Z John Williams does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
