Softball Game Preview: Edinburg North Cougars vs. Zapata Hawks

Edinburg North and Zapata are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2020, but likely not for long. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Edinburg North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Edinburg North was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Edinburg on Tuesday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 18-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.

Destany Bermudez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Bermudez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Kyla Rodriguez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Leah Nunez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Edinburg North always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edinburg only posted an OBP of .294.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Zapata, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past King 2-1.

Zapata's victory bumped their record up to 7-15-1. As for Edinburg North, their win bumped their record up to 22-8-1.

Edinburg North skirted past Zapata 6-4 in their previous matchup back in February. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
