McClain will head out on the road to square off against Waverly at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McClain has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 18.
It was a proper cat-fight when McClain took on Clay on Friday. The Tigers came up short against the Panthers, falling 11-5.
Brie Cummins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Olivia Stegbauer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Waverly couldn't beat Portsmouth on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the seventh inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 7-6. The Tigers have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Lexi Smith was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double.
In other batting news, Addi Hudnell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Karley Hignite also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
McClain's record now sits at 7-13. As for Waverly, their record is now 11-14.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. McClain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Waverly struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
McClain came up short against Waverly when the teams last played back in April of 2025, falling 9-6. Can McClain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
