Softball Recap: Central Valley Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against University Prep, Central Valley was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Yreka Miners get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. The one-run effort marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Joleen Short's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Central Valley's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jaycee Horst, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Central Valley's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Yreka, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Valley will host West Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Yreka, they will be playing at home against University Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
