Softball Game Preview: Bear River Bruins vs. Marysville Indians

Bear River is 2-8 against Marysville since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Bear River will be playing at home against Marysville at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bear River has three straight victories, Marysville has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Bear River took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Lincoln, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Bear River came out on top in a nail-biter against Lincoln on Thursday, sneaking past 8-6.

Ana Marin Hemings spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

At the plate, Lily Fiddyment was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Ella Northup was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Fiddyment wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Bear River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, Marysville fell victim to East Nicolaus and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Spartans, falling 15-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Indians were not able to get on the board.

Marysville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Bear River, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Bear River was able to grind out a solid victory over Marysville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. Does Bear River have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marysville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
