Basketball Game Preview: Pantego Christian Panthers vs. Covenant Knights

The Pantego Christian Panthers will head out to face off against the Covenant Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pantego Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.2 points per game this season.

Last Monday, Pantego Christian took their contest with ease, bagging a 71-42 victory over Yavneh Academy. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-14.

Pantego Christian relied on the efforts of Tristan Brown, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards, and Evan Jackson, who went 6 of 12 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Brown is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aj Brooks, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Pantego Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yavneh Academy only racked up nine assists.

Meanwhile, Covenant came up short against Prince of Peace on Tuesday and fell 50-39. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Pantego Christian has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a massive bump to their 18-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for Covenant, their loss dropped their record down to 19-13.

Pantego Christian strolled past Covenant when the teams last played two weeks ago by a score of 64-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pantego Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
