Softball Recap: Kenton Drops Season-High Score on Perry

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kenton). They were the clear victors by a 22-5 margin over the Perry Commodores on Wednesday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Kylee Kavanaugh made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Ratliff, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Lyla Gammon was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

Kenton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Kenton's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-9. As for Perry, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kenton will host Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Perry, they will welcome Ottoville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
