Basketball Recap: Cambridge Comes Up Short

Cambridge was the 36-31 winner over Maywood/Hayes Center when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Cambridge Trojans were dealt a 59-14 loss at the hands of the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Wolves are ranked 41st).

Cambridge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elisabeth Kubik, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cambridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Blayklee Farr had an outrageously good game for Maywood/Hayes Center as she went 8 of 11 on her way to 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Farr is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caylie Softley, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

Cambridge has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Cambridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-19 loss against Southwest on the 10th. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-17 victory against Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] on the 7th.
