Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Buena

Buena proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Oxnard Yellowjackets. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Brody Kaylor made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kaylor was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabriel Alonzo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mason Trigo, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Buena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Buena pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Oxnard, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Buena wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-1 loss against Ventura on the 18th. As for Oxnard, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-1 defeat against Santa Barbara on the 18th.
