Springfield Renaissance hasn't had much luck against Commerce recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Springfield Renaissance will head out to face off against Commerce at 4:00 p.m. Springfield Renaissance is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.4 runs per game this season.
Springfield Renaissance took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 21-13 margin over Putnam Vo-Tech. The win was some much needed relief for Springfield Renaissance as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jocelyn Pena made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and ten unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jasmine Torres, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Torres is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least two every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Leah Charles, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Commerce and Pathfinder RVT, and Pathfinder RVT kept the tradition alive. The Red Raiders came up short against the Pioneers on Thursday, falling 13-1. The Red Raiders have struggled against the Pioneers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Springfield Renaissance's record now sits at 2-3. As for Commerce, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Springfield Renaissance has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 14.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Commerce struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Springfield Renaissance suffered a grim 22-8 defeat to Commerce in their previous meeting on Monday. Can Springfield Renaissance avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
