Basketball Recap: Summertown Eagles vs. Wayne County Wildcats
If Summertown was riding high fresh off their 88-45 takedown of Perry County last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Summertown Eagles took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wayne County Wildcats on Friday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in January.

Despite the loss, Summertown still got an impressive performance from Kurt Burleson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 boards. That's the most points Burleson has posted since back in December of 2023. Lleyton Sherman was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six boards and four steals.
Cayman Camfield was his usual excellent self, going 9 of 18 on his way to 23 points and five assists for Wayne County. That makes it three consecutive games in which Camfield has scored at least a third of Wayne County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sayler Skelton, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 14 points.
Summertown's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Wayne County, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Summertown didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 77-35 win against Central Magnet on the 9th. As for Wayne County, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wayne County Wildcats challenge the Lewis County Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lewis County will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Wayne County surely won't give up without a fight.
