Baseball Recap: St. Edmund Prep Takes a Loss

St. Edmund Prep had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-10 to make it 17. They lost 10-0 to the Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mountaineers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on Monday.

As for Mt. St. Michael Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Mt. St. Michael Academy's part, Joel Grullon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Grullon has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Deiri Bodre was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Vinicio Paradis, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

St. Edmund Prep and Mt. St. Michael Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Eagles (ranked 551st) will meet Moore Catholic (ranked 163rd) at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mt. St. Michael Academy will square off against St. Joseph-by-the-Sea at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (260 vs. 51).
