Basketball Recap: Westview Skates Past Goshen with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Westview's strategy against Goshen on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Warriors blew the RedHawks out of the water with a 60-18 final score. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 29-9.

Westview got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Janissa Lehman out in front who shot 57% from the field on her way to 19 points and three steals. Bre Cory was another key player, putting up 12 points along with five boards and four blocks.

Westview was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Goshen only posted two.

Despite the defeat, Goshen saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lainey Trenshaw posted nine points and three steals. Trenshaw also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 50%. Jaylie Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

The win (which was Westview's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points over those games. As for Goshen, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Westview is taking a road trip to take on Bethany Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Goshen, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Columbia City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
