Kenai running back leads team to 51-16 win in season opener against Nikiski.

Jace Daniels of Kenai Central (Kenai, Alaska) got his season off to a strong start and may have set an Alaska state record in the process Saturday.

In Kenai's 51-16 win over Nikiski, Daniels carried 20 times and raced for 485 yards with seven touchdowns. He averaged 24 yards a carry and had touchdown runs of 73, 2, 81, 38, 43, 49 and 49 yards.

Daniels reportedly had just over 600 yards rushing as a junior with the Kardinals.

While Alaska single-game records are sketchy, Daniels may have set a state record for single-game yardage. According to an article published in the Anchorage Daily News in 2004, the state record at the time for single game rushing yardage was 395 yards by Dominique Maddox of Service. No update of the state record could be located.
