Kennedy Memorial has gone a perfect 6-0 against North Plainfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to take on the Canucks at 4:00 p.m. Kennedy Memorial will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
While Kennedy Memorial didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over East Brunswick Vo-Tech on Tuesday.
Kevin Portoreal made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Angel Peralta was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Grant Lorentzen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, North Plainfield unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Kennedy Memorial by a score of 3-1.
North Plainfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mark HernandeZ, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Those hits were HernandeZ's first of the season.
Kennedy Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for North Plainfield, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.
Kennedy Memorial came out on top in a nail-biter against North Plainfield when the teams last played on Monday, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
