Basketball Recap: Huntington Beach Takes a Loss

Huntington Beach easily dispatched Hug on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Huntington Beach Oilers fell just short of the Fernley Vaqueros by a score of 70-67 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Oilers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 367th in California, while the Vaqueros are ranked 27th in Nevada).

Fernley was led to victory by Sheldon Jacobson and Bryce Dunagan-Stephens. Jacobson shot 4-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Dunagan-Stephens went 8 of 14 on his way to 25 points and six assists. Jacobson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Berreman, who posted 12 points.

Huntington Beach's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Fernley, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Huntington Beach didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-22 victory against Incline on the 6th. As for Fernley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-57 win against Hug on the 6th.
