After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chapmanville Regional, Nitro was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Huntington Highlanders. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Highlanders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Torrance Nutter, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Averi Null, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Nitro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Nitro's win bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Huntington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.
Nitro and Huntington could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings. The Wildcats will challenge George Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (72 vs. 6). Meanwhile, Huntington (ranked 91st) will meet Cabell Midland (ranked second) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
