Football Recap: Rains Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Rains had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it six. They had to suffer through a 64-19 loss at the hands of the Mount Vernon Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 920th, while the Tigers are ranked 416th).

Despite the loss, Rains still got an impressive performance from Taisean Shields, who rushed for 74 yards and a pair of TDs.

As for Mount Vernon, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Dawson Witherspoon was his usual excellent self, rushing for 170 yards and five scores while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Cade George was another key player, throwing for 201 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Coincidentally, Rains and Mount Vernon will both be playing Winnsboro the next time they take the field. The Wildcats will host the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Tigers will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th.
