Softball Game Preview: Cypress Centurions vs. Villa Park Spartans

The Cypress Centurions will face off against the Villa Park Spartans at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress will be strutting in after a victory while Villa Park will be coming in after a loss.

Cypress' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over El Modena. The result was nothing new for the Centurions, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Delaney 'D.J.' Faus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sanaiyah 'Naya' Cleland, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Makayla Bishop was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Cypress was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Modena only posted a batting average of .174.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Villa Park's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of La Habra by a score of 5-4.

Cypress' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-9. As for Villa Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.

Cypress came out on top in a nail-biter against Villa Park in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Centurions repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
